New construction inspection are often debated as necessary. Many people don’t understand why new construction should be inspected, after all “it’s brand new, what could be wrong?”. The truth is any home built by man can have items that need to be addressed. A good builder will welcome an inspection to ensure his subs did their work correctly and to have a new set of eyes look at the property. To see the types of items found during a new construction inspection review the new construction sample report. If you are still unsure, please call our office and speak directly to Charlie. You don’t want to miss this opportunity to get things corrected before you move in. The builder is still working on your home, talk to him now, not after he has moved onto another property.
In Mississippi a home inspector is required to carry a special license, a builder’s license, to inspect new construction. New construction is defined as any property still in the builder’s name – no matter what year the property was built. To determine if an inspector is licensed for new construction you can check their license number. A “NH” at the end of the number indicates “New Homes” and the license necessary for the new construction.

Building a new home is a tremendously complex endeavor. It involves many people, usually split up into sub-contractor groups, each working on different parts and systems of the house. Even for the best builders, it’s nearly impossible to complete this process without missing something. Maybe it’s a plumbing fixture that didn’t get tested for leaks, maybe it’s an electrical box that isn’t working, or any one of dozens of minor problems that can easily be overlooked in such a major undertaking. We will find such problems while it is still early enough for you to bring them up with the builder and have them corrected before construction gets to the next step and before you sign off.
